Damn, he’d just said “the U.S. should stockpile more Bitcoin,” and now he’s leaving the White House? 🇺🇸

Patrick Witt, executive director of the White House’s Council of Advisers on Digital Assets, recently said the government’s first priority is to safeguard, account for, and securely store the crypto assets it already holds. After that, it will look into how to add more to the “Strategic Bitcoin Reserve” $BTC .

Note that this is only “under consideration”—there’s no specific buying plan or timeline.

The twist is that on the very same day, White House officials confirmed that Witt’s temporary assignment had ended and he had left. His successor hasn’t been announced yet. He previously led major initiatives including the CLARITY Act, the GENIUS Act, and the strategic reserve—and the CLARITY Act is still stuck in the Senate.

Some people have also dug up an old promise: at the Bitcoin 2026 conference five months ago, he said a major announcement related to the reserve would come “in the next few weeks.” It still hasn’t materialized.

Put simply, the policy direction hasn’t changed, but the person driving it has—and things will probably slow down again. On top of that, Bitcoin is still hovering around $81,000 after CPI came in hotter than expected, so in the short term, this news feels more like an emotional placebo.

Do you think the U.S. government will really spend money to buy $BTC ? Let’s talk in the comments 👇
