Asset manager VanEck said it no longer plans to proceed with its proposed exchange-traded fund linked to Lido staked Ether, a product intended to give investors direct exposure to a liquid staking asset.
In a filing submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday, VanEck Digital Assets said it does not intend to proceed with the planned distribution of the fund’s shares. The filing did not explain the reason for the decision, nor did it clarify whether the company would pursue an alternative product later.
VanEck originally filed the fund’s S-1 registration statement on October 16, 2025. Under the proposed structure, the fund would have held Lido staked Ether (stETH), with the expectation of accruing some staking rewards by holding the asset.
This move is particularly significant for observers of ETFs linked to staked assets, because withdrawing the filing does not merely mean putting a specific product on hold; it could also be interpreted as a signal of changing issuer priorities or of the difficulty of advancing this type of product under the current regulatory framework.
The timing of the decision also draws attention, coming months after the initial filing. This raises questions about whether the company is reassessing the product’s viability, revising its design, or simply choosing not to pursue this path.
So far, VanEck Digital Assets has provided no further clarification about its next steps, nor has it said whether an alternative will replace the proposed stETH-linked fund.
