A million-dollar question: A hacker went to all that trouble to steal the NBA’s official IG account (a top-tier account with tens of millions of followers), just to promote some random shitcoin whipped up on pump.fun—only for its market cap to end up at just $3,500, with almost nobody buying in. What was the point?
Early this morning, the NBA’s official IG suddenly posted: "Where basketball passion meets blockchain innovation—come explore NBA Coin. BUY NOW!" A contract address was included below. A few minutes later, the post was swiftly deleted. The coin had been freshly minted on pump.fun that same day; the market was pitifully small, and hardly anyone bought in.
Even more absurdly, this isn’t the first time: in March 2025, the NBA’s X account was hacked once before, and the hackers posted about an NBA Coin with the same name. NASCAR’s X account was hacked at the same time, too. The hacker’s account-hijacking skills are top-notch, but their coin-picking taste is bottom-of-the-barrel—if they’d just quietly stashed some $SOL , they’d have had a better shot at making a successful call.
So here’s the million-dollar question: Have crypto scammers gotten so desperate that even a promo posted from a hacked top-tier account can’t pump a shitcoin? Which celebrity’s account will be hijacked to shill a coin next? Place your bets in the comments.
