If a transaction fails, does that mean you don’t pay the SOL fee?
On Solana, “execution failed” and “no fee was charged” are two different things.
The official documentation explains that the total transaction fee is deducted from the fee payer’s account before execution begins. Even if execution subsequently fails, the fee is still charged.
The total fee consists of a base fee and an optional priority fee, both paid in SOL. The base fee covers signature verification; the priority fee increases the chance that a transaction will be prioritized, but does not guarantee successful execution.
So when you see a “failed” notice, first check the on-chain transaction details. A transaction that was processed on-chain but failed during execution is different from one that was never processed on-chain. You can’t assume that a failed transaction means “no fee was charged.”
