$XAU Gold plunged from 4222 to 4081, then rebounded to 4147—is it time to buy the dip?
The easiest way to make a mistake in this market is to get scared when prices fall, then think an opportunity has arrived when they bounce.
Gold plunged from 4222 to 4081, with volume increasing during the decline. But the rebound that followed came on noticeably lower volume. It’s now back at 4147 and looks to have recovered somewhat, but the highs haven’t moved up. What justifies calling this a reversal?
Looking at the macro picture, core CPI data came in hot, and concerns about interest rates are heating up again. If the dollar and Treasury yields continue to strengthen, it will be difficult for gold to move higher with ease.
So my view right now is straightforward: **Don’t rush to buy the dip; keep looking for shorting opportunities on rebounds.**
The 4180–4200 range is a key resistance zone. If prices push above it but fail to hold, keep watching for opportunities to go short. On the downside, 4100 is the first level to watch. If 4081 gives way, the next target is 4050, with 4000 in focus in an extreme scenario.
But don’t chase shorts near 4081—that’s the previous low, and a rebound could happen at any moment. If prices decisively reclaim levels above 4222, the outlook will need to be reassessed.
Don’t mistake a low-volume rebound for a sign that the decline has bottomed. And don’t enter trades blindly just because you’re bearish. Waiting for the price to reach a resistance zone before acting makes more sense than guessing the direction around 4147.
