$BTC Wick down to 80K: after the $940M liquidation flush, is it time to act? 📊💥

Let’s look at three numbers.

First, liquidation volume. About $944 million was liquidated across the market in the past 24 hours. ETH accounted for $286 million, more than BTC’s $197 million. ETH fell just over 6%, yet more money was liquidated than in BTC—showing that ETH long positions were far too leveraged. This isn’t retail investors cutting losses while trying to buy the dip; institutions and whales are cutting positions, in a forced deleveraging.

Second, institutions have changed their tune. U.S. spot BTC ETFs saw $150 million in net outflows yesterday, after $175 million in net inflows the day before—a complete reversal within 24 hours of the CPI release. Both headline CPI at 3.7% and core CPI at 2.6% came in above expectations. Bets on an October rate hike jumped from 22% to 47%, then fell back to 26%—the market can’t even agree on whether there’ll be a move this month.

Third, the technical levels. During the Asian session, BTC wicked down to around 80K, then bounced back to 81K. The 80K–80.7K range is key support; a break below that puts 78K–79.5K in view. ETH’s first support zone is 2,300–2,320. Volatility has climbed to around 39, and the options market is pricing in bigger swings.

The takeaway is simple: this is a leverage flush, not a trend reversal. But rate-hike expectations are being repriced, and it will take time for the market structure to recover. I’m not betting on direction; I’m watching for just two confirmation signals: BTC reclaiming 83K, or ETH rising back above 2,500. Either one would signal that the bulls are back in the game. Scaling in around 80K is fine, but the stop-loss must be below 79K.

Just my personal opinion, for reference only.
