As stock markets suffer steep losses, safe-haven funds are flowing back into U.S. Treasuries, with the 10-year yield falling below 5.10% intraday. Treasuries are up nearly 0.7% this month, on track for their best October performance since 2014, but inflation and massive supply remain concerns.
A global stock sell-off is driving funds back into U.S. government bonds. During Thursday’s Asian trading session, Treasuries led global government bond markets, reflecting investors’ renewed search for traditional safe-haven assets as risk assets came under pressure.
The benchmark U.S. 10-year Treasury yield fell more than 10 basis points intraday, dropping below 5.10% to its lowest level in three weeks. Yields on Treasuries of other maturities also fell by at least 6 basis points, pushing the U.S. dollar index lower. Government bonds in Japan, Australia and New Zealand also rose. #btc
