Vitalik Buterin congratulated the zkSync Airbender team on reaching a new milestone, while noting that the zkEVM speed race is completely over and that security should now become the top priority.

In a post on X, Buterin said that three aspects need to be formally verified: equivalence with the Ethereum specification, limits on verification costs relative to the amount of gas in a block, and the security of the proving system.

Specifically, verification must confirm that the computational representation using arithmetic constraints is equivalent to the Ethereum specification; establish a strict upper bound on the ratio of verification costs to the amount of gas in a block; and verify the security of the proof system itself.
