WAL Rallies 50% Against the Market: Does More AI Usage Necessarily Mean Greater Token Demand?
With the broader market weak, $WAL surged into the top gainers on Binance.
The latest publicly available quote was around $0.064, up about 50% in 24 hours. Global trading volume was about $322 million, nearly 1.9 times its circulating market cap of about $167 million.
The excitement is clear, but trading volume is not net inflows—and it certainly doesn’t mean the fundamentals have grown in step.
What makes Walrus worth examining is how “AI data demand” connects to its token.
On October 7, the team launched Walrus Console, which lets developers manage data, access permissions, and AI agent memory in one place, and connect tools through APIs or MCP. This is an existing product development, not good news released just today.
One detail that’s easier to overlook is the pricing model:
Storage services are priced in U.S. dollars and paid for in WAL, with the amount of WAL required adjusting as the token price changes.
So, if the dollar-denominated rate and storage usage stay the same, a higher WAL price means fewer tokens are needed for each payment.
“Increased AI usage” may boost demand for the service, but it doesn’t directly mean “WAL demand increases proportionally.” You also need to look at paid usage, renewals, revenue, and changes in staking and circulating supply.
Watch for three things next:
① Around $0.0675
Near the 24-hour high at the time of this check. A breakout followed by a successful retest would be more convincing than a brief spike.
② $0.060
A psychological level to watch after the sharp rally, but not yet a confirmed support level. If it breaks below and then fails to reclaim the level, be alert for short-term enthusiasm to fade.
③ Whether paid demand can take over
Free trials, tool integrations, and partnership announcements don’t equal realized paid revenue. The real test beyond the narrative is how much paid data usage is retained over time.
Outperforming the market doesn’t mean it can’t give back its gains; high one-day turnover can also come with a sharp pullback.
When you look at AI infrastructure tokens, do you check user numbers first—or find out who’s actually paying?
