Lately, quite a few people have asked me how to choose altcoins during a bull market. My approach is simple: first, distinguish between core holdings and positions taken just to pursue opportunities.

If I had 10,000 in spare cash to invest in altcoins right now, I wouldn’t put it all into one coin. I’d spread it across several.

For example, I’d start by looking at coins like DOGE, which have strong market consensus and relatively good liquidity, then use part of my funds to research other altcoins with potential.

Why split it up this way?

Because core holdings and speculative positions serve different purposes. With core holdings, I focus more on market acceptance and liquidity. With the rest, I look for greater growth potential.

Of course, a large market cap doesn’t guarantee stability, and small-cap coins don’t necessarily go up. Choosing the wrong one can still lead to losses.

I pay more attention to three things: whether the project is making real progress, whether its funding and trading volume are sustained, and whether its price action is developing a trend of its own.

Before buying, I also decide when to take profits and under what circumstances I’ll admit I was wrong and exit.

Just because I’m bullish on a coin doesn’t mean I should assume it will definitely rise. And I certainly shouldn’t keep adding to a losing position just to lower my average cost.

Altcoins do offer opportunities, but don’t make a 100x return your goal, and definitely don’t bet all your capital on luck. Get your position sizing right first, then wait patiently for opportunities.

I’m also screening assets worth keeping an eye on lately. If you’d like to discuss how to evaluate coins, feel free to reach out and chat.
