Let’s talk about limit orders and market orders.
A large market order may execute against multiple levels of resting orders, so the final average execution price may differ from the price you saw when placing the order. This is called slippage.
One thing that’s easy to overlook: with a market order, you trade price certainty for immediate execution. A limit order is the opposite: you control the price, but the order may not be filled.
Be wary of slippage when using market orders during sharp price swings. For larger orders, consider placing limit orders in smaller batches.
