I used to have trouble distinguishing a price moving above a moving average from a moving-average golden cross. Later, I figured it out: a golden cross is when the faster line crosses above the slower line, such as MA50 crossing above MA200. A price moving above a moving average simply means the price has risen above that moving average. These two things can happen at the same time, or have nothing to do with each other.
The same data can mean very different things in different market conditions, so don’t apply a single rule blindly.
