OpenAI has been sued by eight U.S. states, including Iowa and Kansas, on allegations that its ChatGPT chatbot harms children, including by encouraging them to hurt themselves or others.

The states said on Wednesday, local time, that they had filed lawsuits in courts across the United States. Allegations that ChatGPT has harmed children are among the claims in the lawsuits.

Earlier, Florida became the first state to sue OpenAI in June of the same year. By September, the state had asked a court to prevent OpenAI from developing new models.
