Guys, today’s market action has been a real roller coaster! Bitcoin had just surged to around 84k when the CPI data hit it like a ton of bricks, sending it straight below 82k. It’s now hovering around 81.7k–82k. Watching that candlestick chart, I can’t help feeling both frustrated and amused—the moment the macro data came out, the dollar and Treasury yields took off, hammering risk assets across the board. Crypto wasn’t spared either.
The hot CPI report came in at 3.7% for headline inflation, above expectations, and core CPI also beat forecasts. The market immediately started worrying that the Fed might hike rates again in October. The bond market got hammered, with the 10-year yield surging above 5.3%. In crypto, BTC pulled back from its early-session high near 84k, dropping about 1–2%, while altcoins fared even worse. To me, this looks like a classic shakeout. Some people previously said we needed to hold support at 75.5k or 80k to keep the market structure intact, and now we’re right around 80k, testing a strong support level.
What’s the trading outlook? In the short term, I don’t think it’s worth chasing prices higher. Liquidity could come under pressure after the hot CPI report, and crypto could get dragged down as U.S. stocks pull back too. Support is around 81k and 80k; if 80k breaks, we could revisit 78k or even lower. Resistance is at 84k–85k, so don’t dream about new highs unless we break through. I added a little to my spot position around 82k, planning to buy in stages because I’m still bullish long term, and companies are still buying. For example, Strive bought another 2,822 BTC at an average price above 83k, pushing its holdings past 35,000 BTC. That’s a sign institutions are still buying the dip!
As for futures, BTCUSDT is volatile, so watch your leverage and don’t get liquidated. I’d advise beginners to avoid high leverage and keep an eye on trading volume and funding rates. The overall market cap is still around 2.8T, and the Fear and Greed Index is neutral-to-positive, but with macro factors in the driver’s seat, don’t make overly aggressive bets on direction.
That said, this pullback could actually be an opportunity. There’s a steady stream of news about banks getting involved. Standard Chartered has launched a service in the UAE that lets wealthy clients buy and sell BTC and ETH directly through their bank accounts. That’s a major bank bringing crypto into its core wealth-management offering. Institutional money is gradually flowing in while retail traders get shaken out—a classic script.
Guys, the market always has its share of surprises and scares. Tap follow, and you’ll get the next update sooner! Share your thoughts in the comments—I’m optimistic that 80k will hold and we’ll bounce, but we need to wait for the market to digest the data.
