🚨🔐 LEDGER HALTS WALLET SALES ACROSS ASIA: A SECURITY WAKE-UP CALL! 🔐🚨
A device built to protect your crypto should never become the reason you fear losing it.
Ledger has asked resellers and distributors in six Southeast Asian countries and Hong Kong to suspend sales and remove its hardware wallets from shelves while it investigates suspected device tampering.
The affected markets include Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam and Hong Kong.
The investigation follows reports involving CryptoBilis, a Malaysian reseller whose devices were reportedly fitted with malicious hardware capable of exposing recovery phrases. Blockchain investigators have linked the incident to more than $86 million in suspected crypto theft, although that figure has not been independently verified by Ledger.
My Take: The biggest lesson here is that crypto security does not end with choosing a hardware wallet. The supply chain matters too.
A hardware wallet can protect private keys from many online threats, but a compromised device can undermine that protection.
The critical issue is whether malicious components entered the distribution process before customers ever opened the box.
Ledger says confirmed incidents remain contained to Southeast Asia and that it has no indication its own infrastructure or direct sales channel has been compromised.
This is a developing investigation, not proof that every Ledger device is unsafe.
If you suspect your device is affected, do not initialize it or enter your recovery phrase. Follow Ledger's official security guidance and verify any instructions through its official website.
In crypto, protecting your recovery phrase starts before you make your first transaction.
❓ Will this incident change how you choose and verify a hardware wallet?
