BlackRock’s crypto ETF assets surge 63%, still far from their 2025 peak

Assets in BlackRock’s crypto ETFs have risen 63% in a year, but they’re still a long way off last year’s high. I’ve said all along that institutional investors are nowhere near as frenzied as they were in the previous cycle. A 63% rise looks impressive, but that’s just because it started from a low base.

BTC has been hovering around $82,000, and inflows into IBIT, BlackRock’s flagship product, have indeed stabilized. But compared with the daily net inflows of $500–600 million we saw in 2025, today’s volumes are just a toe in the water. What’s the key signal? BlackRock is still adding to its holdings. The 63% increase in assets shows institutions haven’t bailed. The phrase “still far from the peak” is itself a hint—they’ve got plenty of firepower, they just aren’t in a hurry to deploy it all.

On the on-chain infrastructure front, Starknet added a DeFi privacy feature to wallets today, so transactions are no longer exposed for all to see. It’s a step in the right direction. After six months of competing on performance, Ethereum L2s are finally starting to compete on privacy and compliance. If STRK can use this to attract institutional DeFi users, its valuation story will need to be rewritten.

Also keep an eye on PI. It’s been sitting below $0.08 with little movement, but plans for a stablecoin are now coming to light. The biggest question surrounding this coin right now isn’t its price—it’s whether it can evolve from a mining-app token into something with real-world payment use cases.

Tonight, watch to see whether IBIT’s net inflows can climb back above $100 million. That would be a solid sign that “institutions are really back.”
