September CPI came in hotter than expected: headline inflation rose to 3.7% YoY, while core CPI hit 2.6%. Monthly headline CPI matched forecasts at 0.6%, but core CPI was slightly higher than expected at 0.3%.
One thing to keep in mind: the jump in gasoline prices drove much of the monthly increase. Still, sticky inflation could keep rate-cut hopes in check and support the dollar and Treasury yields — a potential short-term headwind for crypto, gold and silver.
My take: don’t chase the first move. Watch yields, the dollar and price action for confirmation. Keep position sizes reasonable and be careful with leverage.
