TRON’s post-quantum protection is already running in testing. What remains before it can be activated?
Financial networks built to last don’t wait for a risk to materialize: they prepare in advance, when taking action is a strategic decision rather than an emergency response. TRON $TRX has just taken such a step, though there are still stages to complete.
What risk are we talking about?
Your digital money is protected by a lock that only your private key can open. With today’s computers, forcing it open is practically impossible. Quantum computers are far more powerful at certain calculations, including those that underpin these locks. Q-Day is the hypothetical day when one manages to break them. No one knows when it will come, which is why post-quantum cryptography is being developed: locks designed to withstand both today’s machines and those of the future.
What’s already working
On October 10, @justinsuntron announced that post-quantum protection is running on Nile, the test network, and is ready to move to the main network. It has been active since July 2, for more than three months. It uses two NIST-standardized signatures: FN-DSA-512 (Falcon) and ML-DSA-44 (Dilithium). They protect transactions, blocks produced by Super Representatives, communication between nodes, and smart contracts. The new system works alongside the current one: each account will be able to migrate to a post-quantum key while keeping its address and without moving funds.
What remains
The TIP-899 proposal is still in draft form and must pass an external audit, a bug bounty program, and a vote by the Super Representatives. No date has been confirmed, but the team aims to protect the network before the end of the year.
Beyond the announcement
Trust isn’t built on promises, but on recognized standards, independent review, and decisions made before a risk becomes apparent. It’s slow, unglamorous work, which is why it builds greater trust over time.
