U.S. inflation is rising across the board. What does the jump to 3.7% mean for Bitcoin and the markets?..

The U.S. macroeconomic outlook has just sent investors a double warning signal. On the one hand, September’s headline Consumer Price Index (CPI) jumped considerably to 3.7% year over year, exceeding analysts’ forecast of 3.6% and accelerating sharply from the 3.40% recorded the previous month. At the same time, core inflation—the measure that excludes food and energy to gauge the underlying cost of living—rose to 2.6% annually, versus Wall Street’s estimate of 2.5%, reaching its highest level since June.

The combination of these figures shows that inflationary pressures are far from fading. While the rise in headline CPI reflects recent increases in commodities such as gasoline and energy, the resilience of core inflation confirms that everyday expenses such as housing, insurance, and services continue to push prices higher. This simultaneous upward movement complicates the path toward the Federal Reserve’s official 2% target, showing that the fight against rising prices still has difficult chapters ahead.

For the crypto ecosystem and financial markets, this scenario immediately cools expectations of a rapid and aggressive cycle of interest-rate cuts. If the Federal Reserve determines that the economy is still overheating, it will keep the cost of borrowing elevated for longer, encouraging large investment funds to seek refuge in low-risk Treasury bonds rather than inject fresh liquidity into volatile assets such as Bitcoin. Although this does not break the long-term structural trend, the data add caution and volatility in the short term as traders adjust to the prospect that cheap money will take a little longer to return.
