【Tonight’s Trading Plan】CPI Night: BTC Orders at Both Ends of the Range

Tonight’s real trigger isn’t price—it’s the CPI report at 20:30. $BTC has been moving sideways around 83,000 all day, $ETH is stuck near 2,500, while $WAL has surged 40% in a day. My view: don’t pick a direction before the data comes out. For all three coins, place orders only at the ends of their ranges.

The market data below is as of Binance, 10-14 18:35. The CPI figures had not yet been released when this was written. CNBC reports that the market expects September core CPI to rise 0.2% month over month. The Fed just raised rates to 3.75%–4.00% in September, and this report will determine whether it raises them again on October 28.

1️⃣ BTC: The range is still intact; wait at either end
Current price: 83,389; 7-day range: 80,394–84,352; 4H structure: range-bound.
Evidence 1: Today’s trading volume is only 0.41 times the 20-day average. No one wants to bet ahead of the data.
Evidence 2: 84,352 is a cluster of equal highs, and 84,612 above it lines up exactly with Fib 0.618. There’s a decent chance of a false breakout sweeping stop-losses before price pulls back.
Evidence 3: Open interest is down 3.89% over 24 hours. Leverage is being pulled out, and a one-way move needs fresh money.
Scenario 1 (core CPI comes in high): Consider placing a small short order near 84,500, with a stop at 85,800 (above the resistance trendline at around 85,679) and a first target of 83,000.
Scenario 2 (core CPI meets or comes in below expectations): Consider placing a long order on a retest of 81,000, with a stop at 79,900 and an initial target of 83,800.
Invalidation: A 4H close above 85,800 invalidates the bearish scenario. A break below 79,900 would signal more downside below 80,000; exit the long and accept the loss.

2️⃣ ETH: Long positions are more crowded than the price action suggests
Current price: 2,502; 7-day range: 2,406–2,587.
Evidence 1: The 2,570–2,590 resistance zone overlaps with Fib 0.5 (2,592).
Evidence 2: The long/short account ratio rose from 2.52 to 2.82. Price hasn’t risen, but longs keep piling in. If the data comes in hawkish, longs could be caught in a liquidation cascade.
Evidence 3: Daily RSI is 34.1—weak, but not yet at an extreme.
Scenario 1: Consider placing a short order on a bounce to 2,585, with a stop at 2,650 and a first target of 2,520.
Scenario 2: Consider placing a long order on a retest of 2,410, with a stop at 2,370 and a target of 2,500.
Invalidation: If price holds above 2,650, the resistance zone has been cleared; exit the short.

3️⃣ WAL: The hottest coin today, but I’m not chasing it
Binance spot is up 41.44% over 24 hours; the perpetual funding rate is -0.6725%, meaning shorts are paying.
Evidence 1: Both 4H highs and lows are rising, forming an uptrend.
Evidence 2: Trading volume over the last 10 4H candles is 4.13 times the previous average. The volume surge is real.
Evidence 3: The 0.04398–0.04554 support zone overlaps with Fib 0.5 (0.04396).
Plan: Consider placing a small long order on a retest near 0.045, with a stop at 0.04242 and a first target of 0.0607.
Invalidation: Accept the loss if price breaks below 0.04242. No clear news catalyst has been identified so far. There’s also an unlock of around 27.8 million tokens on October 26. Small-cap coins are volatile, so keep position sizes smaller.

⏰ Tonight’s schedule (Beijing time)
20:30 — U.S. September CPI; 21:30 — U.S. stock market opens; tomorrow, October 15 — U.S. PPI and retail sales data.

After the CPI release, do you think $BTC will hit 84,500 or 81,000 first?
