Transaction finality, explained in a few sentences:
To overturn a finalized Ethereum block, an attacker would have at least one-third of all staked ETH slashed.
The number of confirmations required by an exchange for a deposit essentially reflects how long it waits for transaction finality to reach a level it considers safe.
When depositing to or withdrawing from different chains, confirmation times vary from chain to chain, so a slow arrival doesn’t necessarily mean something has gone wrong.
