BTC has been hovering between $81,000 and $84,000 for about seven days. U.S. September CPI is due tonight at 20:30. Markets keep coming back to inflation because this reading could shift interest-rate expectations and break the current standoff.

But to judge whether BTC can break out of its range, headline CPI alone isn’t enough. The year-over-year forecast being discussed publicly is around 3.6%. One market report views core CPI of 0.2% month over month or lower as easing policy pressure, while 0.3% or higher would mean that pressure persists. How Treasury yields react after the data comes out matters just as much.

There’s also a hurdle overhead: the report notes that selling by holders looking to break even could emerge near $84,300. Even if inflation comes in below expectations, a post-data spike could prove short-lived without sustained spot demand to absorb the selling.

If the reading comes in cool but BTC still can’t hold above its range, should we blame macro expectations for failing—or is there simply not enough buying?
