In Kovel District, a man accessed someone else’s Binance account and stole cryptocurrency worth more than 60,000 hryvnias
The court found that on August 8, 2025, he was at home using his iPhone X. The device had a passkey saved for the victim’s Binance account. He had obtained the passkey by unknown means back in June 2025. He later logged into the account, saw the assets, and transferred 1,469 USDT to his own wallet. At the NBU exchange rate on August 8, 2025, this amounted to UAH 60,924.31.
The court found him guilty not only of theft, but also of unauthorized interference with the operation of an information system: he accessed someone else’s account and made a transfer without the owner’s permission.
At trial, the defendant pleaded guilty in full. He explained that he had bought the iPhone X second-hand and assumed the previous owner’s login details had remained on the phone. He said he understood that he was not allowed to transfer someone else’s assets, but had acted recklessly. He apologized to the victim and fully compensated them for the loss.
Be careful. It’s best to:
▪️ Enable two-factor authentication (passkey and Google Authenticator)
▪️ Enable a whitelist of withdrawal addresses and an anti-phishing code on Binance
