Bombshell inside OpenAI
Engineer arrested
In the AI era, the biggest threat isn’t hackers
—it’s your own people
Holy shit
Guys
A huge scandal has just come out of OpenAI
It sounds like something out of a tech espionage thriller
Abdulrahman Alfozan, a 35-year-old Saudi engineer at OpenAI,
is suspected of secretly installing a concealed recording device in an executive conference room at the company’s San Francisco headquarters
He has been arrested and charged by the FBI
One of the world’s top AI companies
—and they found a hidden recording device in a conference room
Tell me that isn’t wild
During a routine security check on September 30,
a recording device was found in a USB port behind the TV in an executive conference room
It had been disguised by wrapping it in tissue paper
The device stored encrypted recordings
The room was used for discussions about top-secret matters like superintelligence, model development, and business strategy
And the craziest part was how they caught him
The suspect used AI to look up how to make and hide eavesdropping devices
OpenAI, in turn, used its own AI model to trace the source
and identify the insider
Then they handed the case straight over to the FBI
Holy shit
I don’t know whether to say this guy was an idiot
or that AI is just too damn good
I’m speechless
So far, there’s no evidence he obtained or leaked model weights, source code, or customer data
The employee has been fired
He’s charged with illegally intercepting oral communications
If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison
The AI race is now heating up
Whoever gets their hands on more advanced models
and whoever has more data
could gain a foothold in the next wave of technological change
So these days, companies really are
pulling out all the stops
I’m more curious, though:
Was this idiot recording things for himself,
or was some rival company behind it?
Will there be an even bigger scandal later?
