AI doesn’t just help you write code and answer questions—it may one day spend money to buy services on its own.
Ripple recently partnered with Privy, a wallet infrastructure company owned by Stripe, to let developers create XRP Ledger wallets directly within their apps. These wallets support transfers and payments in assets such as XRP and the RLUSD stablecoin. Users no longer need to download a separate wallet, and AI can make automatic payments through a dedicated wallet.
What can this be used for?
For example, if AI needs to access paid data, a human might have had to make the payment in the past. Now, it can automatically authorize a payment based on the price, retrieve the data, and continue with its task.
More importantly, AI agent payments on the XRP Ledger have now topped 14 million transactions. Ripple says these payments account for about 25% of network activity.
But don’t rush to equate the number of transactions with real demand.
Current data shows that the total value of these payments is about 6,991 XRP and 12,752 RLUSD. In other words, many transactions are small—possibly micropayments generated each time AI accesses data or a service.
📌 What’s really worth watching is the XRP ecosystem’s push into a new use case: enabling AI not only to carry out tasks, but also to make payments automatically.
If AI agents need to frequently purchase data, computing power, and software services in the future, low-cost automatic payments could become important infrastructure. However, whether transaction volume can translate into sustained real economic activity remains to be seen.
