The NFT era has officially come to an end: Blur is shutting down on November 12.

Blur, which once took down OpenSea, announced on October 12 that the blur.io frontend will go offline on November 12. The numbers are brutal:

Monthly trading volume plunged from $1.43 billion in March 2023 to less than $7 million in March 2026—a 99.5% drop. At its peak, Blur accounted for over 70% of Ethereum NFT trading volume. According to Token Terminal, the protocol has generated zero revenue in three years—because it has always charged zero fees. After the BLUR announcement, the token fell another 29%, down 99.8% from its all-time high of $5.

Interestingly, only the website frontend is shutting down; the smart contracts will continue running on-chain, and BLUR holders still control the fee switch. But 99% of users only know how to use the website, so shutting down the frontend is practically the same as shutting down the service.

Founder Roquerre shut down Blast just ten days ago (TVL fell from $2 billion to $32 million). This NFT cycle is truly over.
