RSI (Relative Strength Index), developed by Welles Wilder, is calculated using the average gains and average losses over the most recent 14 candlesticks. Its value ranges from 0 to 100.
Many people pay more attention to RSI moving back out of overbought or oversold territory—for example, dropping from above 70 to below 70—rather than taking the opposite position as soon as it enters that range.
The point of understanding this indicator is to avoid being spooked by a single number, not to use it to predict whether prices will rise or fall.
