A lot of people who are new to trading ask me: Does 10x leverage mean you make 10 times as much? Let me explain it in plain English today.
【The basics】Leverage is when the exchange lends you money to open a position. If you have 100 USDT in capital and open a 10x leveraged position, you actually control
a 1,000 USDT position. If the coin price rises 1%, you make 10% on your capital; conversely,
A 1% drop means a 10% loss on your principal—note, the loss is calculated based on the total position, including the amount you borrowed.
【The cost】With 10x leverage, if the coin price moves about 10% against you, your principal is wiped out. This is called liquidation. It’s not
that you only lose everything after a 10% drop; a drop of about 10% is enough to wipe it all out (the exact point also depends on the margin ratio).
Leverage doesn’t amplify your win rate—it amplifies volatility. Get the direction right, and it helps you make money faster; get it wrong, and it speeds up
your exit. The tool itself isn’t good or bad—it depends on whether you use it as a tool or treat it like a bet.
【Beginner’s tip】Start with 2–3x leverage to get a feel for the volatility. Build stop-losses into muscle memory before thinking about scaling up.
