Another public blockchain has conceded.

On October 12, DATA Network (formerly Story) announced that it would shut down its standalone blockchain and move its AI training data protocol entirely to Sui. The Sui Foundation put up $30 million, becoming its largest institutional token holder.

The numbers are interesting: the Trace registry launched in June and reached 270 million registrations in four months. In the project’s own words, maintaining a separate chain for a single use case means paying for validators, security, and infrastructure yourself—“which is basically rebuilding Walrus and Seal, both of which Sui already has.”

DATA tokens will migrate to Sui at a 1:1 ratio, so holders won’t need to swap their holdings.

The consolidation of public blockchains continues: appchains that can’t afford to operate independently are lining up to join larger ecosystems. Sui’s $30 million investment isn’t just buying a project—it’s buying a ticket into the AI data sector.
