An annualized rate in the negative thousands—shorts paying longs? $RSR This funding rate made me think I’d misplaced the decimal point at first glance. With the current rate at -0.92%, opening a short means funding fees alone eat up nearly 1% of your position per day. Such an extreme negative rate could mean heavy selling pressure in the spot market, with shorts getting trapped—or that traders are stubbornly resisting a short squeeze. My rule of thumb is not to chase or try to call the bottom in situations like this. Even if I’m bullish, I’d wait for the funding rate to normalize. Leverage costs are too high—if you’re thinking of jumping in, first work out how much of a move you can withstand.
