【BTC at $ 83K reminds me of those people from 2017—they’re back with a new playbook】

Yesterday I saw that Strive was looking to raise $500 million to buy BTC, with a 15% fixed dividend. My first thought was: I know this script.

What was the playbook in 2017? Issue tokens, promise returns for locking them up, and watch everyone rush in. Now it’s the same thing in a different package—issue preferred shares, offer fixed dividends, and get institutional backing. Same human nature, same greed.

Does this logic hold up? Let me break it down for you:

Strive currently holds 32,773 BTC, making it the fifth-largest corporate holder. How does the play work? Issue shares → raise money → buy BTC → BTC goes up → shares go up → raise more money → buy more. Sounds great, right?

But what’s the catch?

There’s one condition for this cycle to keep going—BTC can’t take a major dive. If it does, preferred shareholders still want their dividends, putting the company’s cash flow under pressure. If it falls further, equity investors start doing the math and wondering whether to get out. Keep falling, and the whole chain breaks. Remember how those “guaranteed profit” lockup schemes from 2017 went bust?

So, do you think this narrative can last?

My personal take: people will buy into it in the short term because it feeds the fantasy of “easy investing.” But I’ve seen too many of these plays to know how they usually end: the people selling the product pocket the management fees first; the people who follow the crowd are left with real money buried in it.

My mindset right now: I’m just watching. Am I tempted? Honestly, a little. At $ 83K, it’s neither here nor there. But the scars from 2017 taught me that not making some money won’t kill you—losing it might.

What about you? Are you brave enough to get in on this one? Or are you like me—saying you won’t, while secretly weighing it up?
