A few things to keep in mind about Bitcoin’s total supply and halving:
1) Bitcoin’s maximum supply is about 21 million coins, based on a design in which the block reward is halved periodically.
2) When Bitcoin first launched, the reward for each block was 50 coins. It has since been halved every 210,000 blocks, roughly once every four years.
3) When discussing supply, distinguish between “fewer new coins being issued” and “how the price moves”—they’re not the same thing.
$BTC ’s issuance schedule is written into the consensus rules; no institution can arbitrarily increase the supply. Current: 83298.01.
