【Volume has exploded—but do you really understand what you’re seeing?】

I saw QNT’s trading volume data last night and had to take a second look.

Trading volume exceeding 5% of its market cap isn’t something you see often in the altcoin market. Either the project team is up to something, or big money is moving in. Either way, there’s likely to be some action in the short term.

Here’s the bottom line: QNT’s performance this week confirmed one of my predictions and proved another one wrong.

What I got right: a 236% gain in 30 days couldn’t last, and a pullback was inevitable. I said at the start of the week that this kind of rally wasn’t normal and would have to give back some gains sooner or later. Sure enough, it fell 20% in a week.

What I got wrong: I thought the pullback would find support around 230, but instead it plunged to around 200 before stopping. I didn’t expect it to test the key support level at 197.71 so soon. What does that tell us? The market is more panicked than I thought, and more retail investors bought in during this rally than I expected.

What really caught my attention wasn’t the price itself, but the people behind the trading volume.

Altcoins are already illiquid, making it difficult for big investors to move in and out. When an unusual surge in volume happens at a time like this, it could mean that whales are selling—or that new money is stepping in to buy. Looking at the charts, I think both are happening: some people are getting out, while others are rushing in to buy the dip.

The question now isn’t “Will it keep falling?” but “Who’s buying, and why?”

QNT is positioned as a provider of crypto infrastructure for institutions. It sounds great, but honestly, I bought into that story before 2021, too. Back then, talk of “Blockchain 3.0” and “Web3 infrastructure” was everywhere. And what came of it? Most of it was vaporware.

Looking at QNT’s business model today, can it actually be put into practice?

The only real-world use case I can see is institutional asset management and compliance. That market definitely exists, and it’ll only grow as regulations tighten. But the problem is, nobody can say for sure how big that market is or how much real revenue it could generate for QNT.

So I have mixed feelings right now.

Technically, the 197.71 support level is still holding, and the fear index is only at 62, which suggests market sentiment isn’t that bad. But when I look at the volume, something just feels off—I can’t shake the feeling that someone is using this opportunity to sell.

The lesson I’ve learned from this move is simple: understanding the signals and making the right decision are two different things. I got burned in 2017 because I thought I “understood” the market and then went all in. I’m wiser now. Even when I understand what’s going on, I don’t dare go all in—I’ll only test the waters with a small position at most.

What’s your mindset right now? Would you dare to buy this dip, or are you already stuck holding the bag?
