Tomorrow at 20:30 Beijing time, the U.S. September CPI data will be released—the last major inflation data before the October 27–28 rate meeting. Previous readings: 3.4% for headline CPI and 2.4% for core CPI. Consensus estimates expect headline CPI to rise to around 3.6%, mainly due to the sharp increase in energy and gasoline prices during September. These “hot headlines” have most likely already been priced in; what will actually determine the direction is whether core CPI holds at 2.4–2.5%. Markets have moved in advance: $BTC at 83,454, up 2.28% over 24 hours, and $ETH up 3.06% to 2,507, while the Fear and Greed Index stood at 62, in “greed” territory. But according to actual daily chart measurements, Bitcoin’s annualized volatility over the past 30 days was 38.8%, and it traded within a range of 75,644–86,620. Despite rising 6.7% overall, it has not broken out of the range—before the data, traders don’t dare do more than trade within the range. A combination of hot headline inflation and cool core inflation is most likely to produce an intraday “fake drop, then recovery” scenario; bet on one direction with maximum leverage, and the market will give you two. Will you reduce your positions before the data comes out, or hold them and wait for the core CPI reading? #cpiwatch #CPI $SOL
