Google’s flagship large model, Gemini 4 Argon, launched worldwide yesterday, opening access to developers, businesses, and subscribers alike. During the promotional period, its output prices are just one-fifth of those of competing models. Meta had only just released its frontier model on Monday when Google followed on Tuesday. In just two days, the number of players capable of going head-to-head with Anthropic and OpenAI doubled from two to four.

Google is banking on professional applications such as finance and law as its key selling point. Large models evolve quickly: just as you get used to one way of doing things, you have to adapt all over again. Google’s stock edged up slightly, with little market fanfare for the launch.
