In a candlestick chart, the thicker part is the body, and the thin lines extending above and below it are the wicks. The tip of the upper wick marks the highest price during that period.
The length of the body shows how much the price rose or fell from open to close during that period, while the length of the wicks shows how much the price retraced after reaching a high or low.
