【Term Explanation】What’s the difference between perpetual and delivery contracts?
Perpetual contracts settle funding payments periodically. The total cost of holding one long term depends on the cumulative funding rate over the holding period.
The premium on a delivery contract over the spot price is often seen as a reflection of funding costs and market sentiment; it does not necessarily predict the price at expiry.
