What to watch | Fed's Williams: May raise rates once more this year; currently sees no need for a rate hike in 2027
According to Bloomberg, New York Fed President John Williams said in an exclusive interview with Bloomberg that he still believes one more rate hike this year may be appropriate, but sees no reason at present to think further rate hikes will be needed in 2027. Williams expects inflation to slow significantly next year and approach the 2% target as the effects of tariffs and energy price shocks fade, helping offset price pressures from AI infrastructure development. The U.S. economy as a whole is not overheating, and the labor market is not creating inflationary pressure.
