XRP fixes CRITICAL flaw that had existed since 2015
The $XRP Ledger fixed a severe vulnerability that allowed coins to be created out of thin air with a SINGLE transaction.
And it had been there for 11 years.
What happened:
An overflow bug in the order book allowed an attacker to add up multiple payments until they exceeded the maximum XRP limit. Instead of returning an error, the system wrapped around to a small number.
In practice: the protocol paid sellers in full, but charged the buyer only the amount after the overflow. The difference? XRP created out of thin air.
The scale of the problem:
According to Veria Labs, which found the vulnerability, it would have been possible to create 18 TRILLION XRP in a single transaction—184x the total supply.
This would have put US$94 billion at risk—60x more than the biggest hack in history (Bybit—US$1.5 billion).
They called it “the biggest crypto hack in history that never happened”.
Important details:#CRİPTO
• Bug reported on 22/09, fixed on 23/09, and patch released on 25/09 • No evidence of exploitation • Veria Labs received US$250,000—the top prize in Ripple’s bug bounty program • The discovery was made using artificial intelligence
Remember the Bitcoin bug in 2010 that created 184.5 BILLION BTC? We had to roll back the network. If this XRP vulnerability had been exploited, the damage would have been historic.
This shows two things: the power of AI to find critical bugs and the importance of bug bounty programs.
And you, do you still trust $XRP for the long term? 👇
