Is this move in $BTC being driven by new positions or the exit of existing ones?

First, distinguish newly opened positions from the closing of existing positions. These two drivers should not be conflated.

As of the synchronized snapshot at 04:30 Beijing time on October 14, $BTC was quoted at 83,182.52 USDT on Binance, while OKX quoted 83,188.20 at the same time.

By timeframe, the changes were -0.05% over 15 minutes, +0.16% over 1 hour, and -0.16% over 4 hours. Volume and open interest data show a 1-hour volume ratio of 0.45, a 1-hour OI change of -0.17%, and a funding rate of +0.0031%.

Price, volume, and positioning have yet to move in one direction in tandem, so for now it is more appropriate to watch the range. Another interpretation is that existing positions are being closed first; price changes do not necessarily mean new capital has already taken a side.

The lower end of the current range is around 81,033.66, and the upper end is around 84,168.00. 84,168.00 is the upside confirmation level, while 81,033.66 is the downside confirmation level. If the price returns to the middle of the range, the short-term directional view is invalidated; keep waiting for the closing price to provide an answer.
