Technical principles | Why is Ethereum’s gas fee split into a base fee and a tip?
When sending a transaction, you set a maximum fee and a maximum priority fee. You’re charged the actual “base fee + priority fee,” up to the maximum fee; any excess isn’t deducted.
The base fee is burned rather than paid to the block proposer, which prevents proposers from stuffing blocks with fake transactions to earn more by driving up fees.
Under EIP-1559, each Ethereum transaction pays a base fee of $ETH units, which is burned directly. Current price: 2504.9.
Try to invest only money you can afford to lose without affecting your livelihood.
