$POL 15-minute trading value was about $2.51 million, 7.7 times the previous average; the price fell 2.01% over the same period.
I used to think that higher volume meant someone was buying. It took me a while to understand: volume counts how much was traded, and the amount bought is always equal to the amount sold. Rising prices on higher volume are often interpreted as buyers being more aggressive, while falling prices on higher volume suggest the opposite. These are all rules of thumb.
When volume increases but the price barely moves, it means buyers and sellers are actively exchanging positions at the current price. To see which way the price will move next, watch for who gives in first.
Learning to read indicators is easy; the hard part is sticking to the rules when the market is at its most volatile.
