September CPI Countdown|BNB Rebound Weaker Than BTC|I’m Holding My Position and Not Betting on the Data
My stance is cautious to neutral. The trending topic on Binance Square is #SeptemberCPIWatch, and the discussion is about the U.S. inflation data for September, which has not yet been released—not about any positive or negative news that has already emerged. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ October calendar states that September CPI is scheduled for release on Wednesday, October 14, at 08:30 Eastern Time, which is 20:30 Beijing time on Wednesday. September PPI is due at the same time the following day. The Federal Reserve website lists its next policy meeting as October 27–28. First, let’s be clear about the sequence of events: tomorrow evening, we’ll see the actual inflation figures and their components; after that, we’ll need to watch how rate expectations, the dollar, and Treasury yields respond. We shouldn’t treat market forecasts as official results in advance, let alone say that a single CPI report means the Fed has already changed interest rates.
The impact on BNB typically comes through two channels. The first is macro risk appetite: if the data comes in above expectations and the expected rate path is revised upward, volatile assets may come under pressure first. If it comes in below expectations, prices could still spike and then retreat if the market has already priced it in. The second channel is BNB itself: whether exchange activity, on-chain applications, and BNB-related products also improve. BNB has uses for gas fees and within its ecosystem, but that doesn’t mean every dollar of capital prompted by CPI will flow into BNB. There’s also a topic on Square today about Bitcoin breaking above $84,000. That concerns BTC price action and can’t simply be applied to BNB as a guarantee of gains.
As of 18:39 Beijing time, BNB/USD on Kraken was around $738.9, with a UTC open of 732.45, an intraday low of 721.76, and a high of 746.84. BTC/USD was around $83,266.7, with a UTC open of 81,737.2 and an intraday high of 84,053.1. Roughly measured from each asset’s daily open, BNB was up about 0.9% and BTC about 1.9%. BNB has not shown a clear synchronized breakout that is stronger than BTC’s, and its price has already pulled back from the day’s high. These are just two sets of market data from the same point in time. They don’t prove that CPI expectations are the only factor, nor do they amount to a forecast of tomorrow evening’s direction. For BNB, I’m watching support around the 721–722 intraday low, the opening area near 732, and resistance around the 747 intraday high. Only a move back above 747 that holds would make a short-term strengthening more convincing. A break below 721 that is not quickly recovered would invalidate the bullish thesis.
If I were trading this myself, I would generally avoid taking a new directional bet before the data release, keep my spot position empty or very small, and avoid high leverage. If, after tomorrow evening’s release, BNB first makes a sharp move and then returns above 747, holding there for two consecutive 15-minute candles, I would consider trying a long with no more than 4% of my total capital. I’d initially target 760 and take half off there; I’d leave the rest for 772, with a stop-loss exit if the price falls back below 732. If it first breaks below 721, I would cancel the plan to chase a long and wait to reassess after it recovers 732 and stabilizes. If the trigger conditions aren’t met, I’d remain out of the market. This is a set of conditions laid out in advance, not a claim that I’ve already bought or made a profit. Tomorrow evening, the most important things to manage are slippage, misreading the data, and the impulse to chase the first candle.
