Lesson 53 of 100 — From my experience in the market

Trading fees — maker and taker: How do small fees eat into your profits?

A 0.1% fee looks like nothing — until you do the math.

Platforms distinguish between two types:
· Taker: Your order is executed immediately and takes existing liquidity — like a market order. The fee is usually higher
· Maker: Your order is placed in the order book and waits for someone to fill it — like a limit order placed away from the current price. The fee is usually lower

The calculation nobody does: You pay fees when you enter and when you exit. A trade of 1000$ with a 0.1% fee each way = 2$ round trip. If you make 10 trades a week, that’s about 80$ a month on the same amount.

How to reduce them:
1️⃣ Know your platform’s fee schedule and your account tier
2️⃣ Platform-token discounts and VIP tiers make a difference at high volumes
3️⃣ More trades doesn’t mean you’re better — every trade needs a reason that justifies its cost

Bottom line: You pay fees on entry and exit, and they add up as the number of trades increases — know your fee schedule and make sure every trade has a reason that justifies its cost.
