Bought a counterfeit hardware wallet; recovery phrase stolen on the spot

A brand-new Ledger Flex bought at Singapore airport was taken apart, revealing an extra circuit board and wiring hidden in the bottom, designed to eavesdrop on screen communications. The device was bought this summer. Its casing was scratched, and it had never been used. A previous batch sold through Malaysian channels had already cost users more than $86 million.

Similar implants have since been found at airport shops, among official European distributors, and in the Philippines. From hand-soldered components to mass-produced circuit boards, the infiltration is spreading across more sales channels. If you’ve been ordering hardware wallets yourself, it’s time to rethink the cost of trusting them.
