The Sui Foundation is reportedly planning to invest $30 million in DATA Network, but market discussions are focused on the possibility that an independent chain could be phased out.

The investment amount isn’t the only reason to talk about SUI. The more important question is whether Sui can bring an existing business into its ecosystem, rather than simply add another partnership name.

According to public discussions, DATA plans to migrate its protocol to Sui, gradually phase out its standalone chain, and use Walrus as its default storage layer. No migration timeline has been announced. There are also claims that its subsidiary Trace has logged more than 250 million data contribution records in total and processes around 3 million receipts per day, though these figures have yet to be independently verified.

It’s easy to misread the situation: the number of records doesn’t equal revenue, and the investment isn’t direct buying pressure for SUI. Even if the migration goes ahead, it remains to be seen whether the existing business can translate into sustained activity on Sui.

If the migration keeps getting delayed, will the market still count this investment as an addition to SUI’s ecosystem?
