If AI tokens still look like a string of code to you, the easiest mistake to make is comparing projects with completely different fundamentals.

The real value of this list isn’t telling you what to buy, but breaking the AI sector down into six layers. Taking a few minutes to categorize projects before looking at the market is more effective than chasing price movements and trying to explain them.

The first layer is underlying resources.

AI infrastructure includes $FET, TAO, and WLD; AI computing power includes $RENDER, IO, and ATH. The former are more focused on networks and foundational protocols, while the latter are closer to the supply of computing power. For ordinary investors, these two categories are useful for gauging whether the AI sector as a whole is attracting attention, rather than focusing only on the short-term fluctuations of a particular coin.

The second layer is the Agent ecosystem.

Frameworks include ELIZA, ARC, and ZEREBRO; launch platforms include VVAIFU, VIRTUAL, and ARC; applications include AI16Z, AIXBT, GRIFFAIN, and OBOT; and supporting infrastructure includes JAIL, SWARMS, and ALCH.

Note that ARC appears in both the framework and launch platform categories, which suggests that some projects may span multiple roles. When analyzing the market, don't just memorize the labels—look more closely at whether a project offers development tools, a launch venue, or a user-facing application.

The third layer is AI Meme, which is more strongly driven by sentiment. It includes $GOAT, ACT, FARTCOIN, BULLY, and SHOGGOTH. These tokens also carry an AI narrative, but they shouldn't be evaluated the same way as infrastructure or computing-power projects. Pay closer attention to changes in hype and volatility risks.

My approach is simple: first identify which layer a token belongs to, then compare it with similar projects, and only after that look at its price performance. The classification table is a starting point for research, not a buy list; sharing the same narrative doesn't mean projects have the same fundamentals or risks.
