You can’t make 《Genshin Impact》 solo—but the 648-yuan game price tag may not last

After struggling to find work, 35-year-old former game designer Siwujun teamed up with an artist. Without a single programmer, they used AI to make 《Son of the White Snake》. They spent 50,000 yuan on tokens and sold more than 200 copies.

What sent the story surging up the trending charts was an offhand remark of his: “This is an era of great creation. Even one person can make 《Genshin Impact》 now.”

The backlash was pretty unanimous. The most stinging comment said it was like “Give me a place to stand and I’ll move the Earth”: you might not be wrong, but you definitely can’t do it.

My take is that the claim is certainly exaggerated—but it’s not the point.

The point is what he said next. A big studio sells a 100-point game for 648 yuan; with AI, he can make an 85-point game and sell it for 6.48 yuan. He calls it the Pinduoduo approach: making sure there are no expensive games in the world.

648 and 6.48 are a hundredfold apart. The same thing, at two different prices. That’s what really threatens other people’s business.

$GALA $SAND The valuation thesis for these gaming-sector projects is that in-game assets and content are limited, so people have to compete for them. But if AI drives the marginal cost of producing content close to zero, then the very idea of scarcity needs to be reassessed.

So what is that 50,000 yuan in tokens? A compute bill. The money flows upstream, toward computing power and token budgets. The investment thesis for compute-related stocks like $TAO is built on exactly this.

Still, we should put one number on the table. 《Son of the White Snake》 sold only a little over 200 copies, despite getting 50,000 impressions on its first day. That’s not enough to support any conclusions. For now, selling an 85-point game for 6.48 yuan is just an idea.

I’d rather see how well 《Dragon Without a Crown》—the game he made in half a month—actually sells. That will be the real test.
