Aave V4 deposits surpass $300 million: new upside or just existing liquidity moving around?

After launching on Arc, Aave V4 saw deposits surpass $300 million. But I have to warn you: this money is most likely not new capital entering the ecosystem. A protocol upgrade does not automatically mean ecosystem growth.

Some will say that new architecture bringing in new liquidity is an inevitable industry trend. But without real data showing an increase in locked value, that $300 million is most likely just existing mainnet funds shifting internally. If mainnet liquidity gets drained, it could actually weaken the protocol’s collateral security.

Keep a close eye on two metrics: compare the TVL trends on mainnet and Arc, and track the 7-day retention rate of new addresses on Arc.

Don’t raise your glass just yet. When the tide goes out, you may find everyone has simply moved money from one pocket to the other.
