On October 13, South Korea’s Financial Intelligence Unit (FIU) announced that the Korea Communications Standards Commission had completed its review on October 6–7 and decided to block domestic access to the websites of 27 virtual asset service providers operating in South Korea without registering as required under the Act on Reporting and Using Specified Financial Transaction Information. The measures include service termination. The list includes overseas platforms such as KuCoin, MEXC, Phemex, BingX, BitMart, and BTCC.

Similar apps had previously been restricted from installation and updates in Apple’s and Google’s app stores; this latest measure extends the restrictions to websites. Services operated by entities or servers located in South Korea will be terminated, while access to overseas websites will be blocked domestically. The FIU said that, going forward, if it discovers unregistered operations, it may immediately request a review to block access—even if no users have yet reported losses. Users who already hold assets on these platforms and encounter difficulties withdrawing them can seek guidance from the Digital Asset eXchange Alliance (DAXA).

Official reminder: Approximately 28 virtual asset service providers are registered in South Korea. Their names can be checked on the FIU website. Using unregistered platforms entails asset-related and compliance risks, so users should withdraw their assets as soon as possible and avoid making further deposits.
